Australian Food Composition Database
It is now possible to create meal plans, and recipes fully adapted to nutrition clients living in Australia as Nutrium now includes the most recent version of the AFCD derived from AUSNUT 2011‒13, a set of files from the same year Australian Health Survey (AHS).
This database includes 5,740 foods and beverages consumed during the 2011‒12 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS) and the 2012‒13 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NATSINPAS) components of the 2011–13 Australian Health Survey (AHS) and provides information on 53 nutrients or related components for those foods and beverages.
If you want to add this database to your definition, it can be found under Australian Food Composition Database (AFCD), FSANZ and its short version AFCD, FSANZ.
Detailed information about this database can be found here.
Each nutrient value is presented on a per 100 g edible portion basis.
Food measures database
Now that Nutrium is adapted for Australia and New Zealand, along with new and adapted foods and beverages, we also added food measures, so that meal plans are more easily understood and easy to follow.
Food measures can range from small, medium, or large units when talking about pieces of fruit, for example), tablespoons, slices, portions, and many other examples.
The AUSNUT 2011‒13 food measures database contains 16,152 measures for the 5,740 foods and beverages consumed during the 2011‒12 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS) and the 2012‒13 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NATSINPAS) components of the AHS.
Edible portions
The edible portion describes the portion of the food that is typically consumed. Edible portions were added to food measures, except when adding grams as they are already added per 100% of edible portion.
Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand
Different countries have different recommendations for population nutrient needs. Australia and New Zealand follow the recommendations
from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
The Nutrient Reference Values are an umbrella term that includes several recommendation values used by professionals to assess individual and population nutrient needs.
To determine if meal plans and recipes are according to the nutrition client's needs, it is now possible to see the NRVs of the nutrients provided by the NHMRC.
Whenever available, the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) value was considered, and when that was not provided, the Adequate Intake (AI) was used.
- Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) - The average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97-98 per cent) healthy individuals in a particular life stage and gender group.
- Adequate Intake (AI) - (used when the RDI cannot be determined). The average daily nutrient intake level is based on observed or experimentally-determined approximations or estimates of nutrient intake by a group (or groups) of apparently healthy people that are assumed to be adequate.
Reference values for proteins, carbohydrates, fats and fibre were added to the software and are adapted for the patient age and gender.
Please note that the recommendations stated above and included on the software are regarding healthy individuals.
